Progression to White
Lipizzaners are genetically grey. Born dark, black-brown, brown, or grey, Lipizzaners gradually lighten and turn white somewhere between the ages of 5 and 10. The white color coat was bred to be dominant. The preference of royalty.
Rocchina will be 6 this spring and I am posting her

This is Rocchina's mother, Triesta(1981-2007) with half sister, Tryphena, and Pluto Balmora (1988-2003), her sire.
Rocchina was the last foal in a long line of Pluto Balmora/Triesta babies.

Wow. Stumbled onto your site while trying to find pictures of Triesta. Which one is her, exactly?
ReplyDeleteI have an 8 year old Lipizzaner, Fionna, who is out of Canissa-10 by Pluto Triesta and I am working on a pictorial of her pedigree.
Your Lipizzan mare is beautiful! I think it's great that you chronicled the change from dark to white! :)
ReplyDeleteTriesta is the mare with the fly mask in the next to the last photo.
ReplyDeleteThis blog has a mind of its own sometimes and screws up the captions and photos.
Nod on the blog moving stuff around :D
ReplyDeleteThanks a zillion!
